Beauty from My Eyes

Beauty from My Eyes is a self portrait series from 2021 that captures how I have grown to see myself. The project consists of a a mixture of slightly abstract close ups and wider views of my body. Monochrome and high contrast is used to focus more on form and the body. Similarly, a black background was used to block out everything else and make the forms and imperfections more prominent.

For years, I felt less beautiful from phone camera selfies and or unflattering light. This project has become a way for me to use my lighting knowledge to show the beauty I see in the mirror. The images also give a deeper view into who I am, such as limited arthritis mobility, scars from accidents, and meaningful tattoos.
